Cycling on the Radio?

I was in my car on my way to work this morning, when the local sports radio host, Dan Sileo, was going on and on about what a cool story it is that Lance Armstrong is in a virtual tie in the Tour de France.  I am not sure how I feel about an ex University of Miami football player talking about the Tour de France on the radio.  My guess is that Mr. Sileo, would probably be the type to honk and yell at a cyclist if he were burdened with the task of passing one on the road.  It really does bother me when people that don’t know anything about a sport, act like they are experts just because they are on the radio.  Anytime I hear an ESPN radio host talking about loving Roger Federer’s game, I have no choice but to change the channel.  Any time I hear a radio host, with the exception of Kim West in Des Moines, talk about cycling, I have to change the channel.  This morning, I had to change the channel.

So, Mr. Selio:

Would you think it was as amazing for Lance Armstrong to be tied for 1st in the Tour de France if you knew he had to leave his teammate (the team leader) behind to do it?  Would you think Lance’s 7 wins were as amazing if you knew that Lance had to use and abuse some of his most valued friendships to get there?  I am not going to even bring up the potential drug use by Armstrong, and documented drug use by his teammates to make those wins happen….wait, I just did.

Is it amazing that a 37 year old is tied for 1st in the Tour de France?…..sure.
