Shimano Joins the 21st Century
As has been rumored for a year or more, Shimano has now introduced a shifter that has cable routing under the handlebar tape. Way to go Shimano…It is 2008, and I am glad to see that you finally acquired the engineering skills to figure it out. It has always amazed me that Shimano was able to create aero levers back in the 80’s which routed brake cables under the tape for an extra clean look, but could not figure out how to get the shift cables under. The new group (Dura-Ace 7900) looks fantastic, and it is much lighter weight than the previous model. I am especially fond of the crankset. It all looks very nice. No telling what the price will be, but I am sure it will be right around the SRAM Red price points. It is probably too late for Shimano to get me to switch back, but I might buy one or two pieces from the group.
