Open Pro is not Open Sport

It is after countless phone calls and e-mails with which I received horrible service and no help at all that I write the following……….

_____________________________________________________________

Even for someone that knows nothing about Mavic’s current line of rims would probably know that an Open Pro rim is not the same thing as an Open Sport rim.  It is similar to the difference between Levi Leipheimer and me.  Levi is a Pro….I am not a Pro.  A Mavic Open Pro is a Mavic Open Pro….A Mavic Open Sport is not a Mavic Open Pro.  Alternatively, for those of you that are more numbers oriented, 4+4=8…..4+4 does not equal 3.

Why in the world, you are asking, am I going in circles about 4+4, Pro riders v.s Non-Pro riders, and Open Pros vs. Open Sports?  The answer is easy……I have 3 Mavic Open Sport rims in my garage, and I didn’t order any of them.  You may have guessed it by now, I actually ordered Mavic Open Pro rims.  The two different models look similar in that they are both rims and they both say Mavic.  Wait, that is like saying that a blue Ford Mustang is similar to a blue Ford Focus.  They really aren’t similar at all.

So, Performance Bicycle…My question to you is, What is it going to take to get a Mavic Open Pro rim?  I ordered it three times expecting that one would come.  Do I need to fly to your distribution center to personally find the item myself?  I am 0 for 3 right now; should I order it another 100 times and hope for the best?  Should I expect to have wheels this year, or will it be in 2010?  I am almost willing to bet any of my readers that Team Astana will get a spot in the Tour de France before Performance Bike can get me a Mavic Open Pro rim.  Maybe Floyd Landis, Tyler Hamilton, Jan Ulrich, Frank VDB, or Alexander Vinokourov will race in the Tour before Performance Bicycle gets me an Open Pro rim….I sure hope I am wrong.

O.K.  Just to finish this rant off in style:

I’m with you on the Performance-hate! What pissed me off is how they like to profit off of their shipping. If you want two day shipping, you will be charged for 2 day air, but they may send it ground without refunding anything. If you pay for ground, they send it through some painfully slow collaboration between FedEx and USPS that probably cost them a fraction of what you actually paid.

Good luck. Hope they get it straight for you!

With as much competition in this market, I’m not sure how Performance can afford these mistakes. Be sure to keep us up to date on your issues. I know you aren’t alone. Let’s get it right Performance, cyclists have a voice now.

I purchased a repair stand from them 3 months ago, and they cannot manage to get it from their warehouse to my house in one piece. They definitely have some quality control issues somewhere in the pipeline.

I steer clear of Performance. I have heard others talk about them having deceptive trade practices. Here is one that I saw on roadbikereview.com: Performance gives a 20% off coupon and then charges tax on the full amount of the product. Hmm…sounds illegal to me. They also charge tax on the shipping cost. I don’t know if that is legal or not, but charging tax on a higher amount than the actual sale is down right robbery. Please let us know if Performance responds to this article.

It does not say in your rant, but did you at anytime contact Performace to let them know of the error?

I have ordered many items from performance, and have never had any problems, in fact they have gone out of their way to make sure I am satisfied, taking back merchandise that didn’t fit the way I liked. I have been very satisfied in my experiences with them. I hope you can get your issues resolved.

Similar experience with tools. Incorrect item shipped. Got hosed on express shipping, customer service was horrible. My first time and my last time ordering from Performance. Never again.

I’ve received good service on their online orders, but i’m at a receiving end on the bicycling mag subscription..I sent them emails after emails and spoke to their customer service as well. All i get back is the standard “We’ve sent your details to our Supervisor and we have all your details and you’re all set” The wait continues into the 7th month now!

go into a performance store and interact with real people. There, they will work it out.
