Tour of America Moves to 2009

Coverage of the Tour of America developments have been slim from the big guys in the bike media, but I am not going to drop it.  The Tour of America can be a big deal, and it can be done.  It didn’t start out the right way…..in fact, Frank Arokiasamy, the Tour Director, was basically laughed out of the room at the original press conference at Interbike last September.  During that press conference and since, Frank mentioned that March 31st was a cut-off date to decide whether to go forward with plans for 2008 or to push the event until next year in 2009.

The 31st deadline has come and gone without any sort of announcement.  Mr. Arokiasamy hinted that things looked better for 2009 than 2008 in February, but there hasn’t been any mention since then……except…..the Tour of America website now shows dates for 2009.  I guess an announcement would have made it look like they failed, so they aren’t making a big deal of it.  I don’t take it as failure…I take it as good planning.  This gives an entire extra year to get things done.  The Tour of America is a big undertaking, and now they have ample time to make it happen.

Way to go Frank and team; You made the right decision to move the race to 2009.
