Rumors Confirmed - TREK + ASTANA
It is official. Trek has inked the deal to be the official sponsor of the Astana pro tour team. This has obviously been a work in progress behind the scenes for some time now. There are still questions about what wheels Astana will ride. Trek has worked hard to develop a market presence with their Bontrager/ HED wheelsets, but Astana has also just inked a deal with SRAM, the new owner of Zipp. I expect Trek to win out this battle just because they are such a big sponsor. It is a shame, because Zipp wheels are much better. This also means that Astana will be without the Specialized helmets and footwear in 2008.
