Toronto Runs Tax Free Bike and Helmet Promotion

Toronto is trying to get its citizens more active by removing sales tax on bicycles and helmets.  This will make Christmas a little sweeter for anyone planning to purchase a bicycle for a family member.  Outside of Christmas, this only makes sense.  Local governments in America should follow Toronto’s lead.  If we are too dependent on oil for transportation, and our citizens are too sedentary, any incentive to buy a bike is a good thing.  Sure, just removing sales tax on bicycles probably won’t cause more people to go buy bikes, but supply and demand models say that at a lower price, more people will buy.  At the very least, people will not be penalized financially for buying an eco-friendly method of transportation.  Good job Toronto…..Come on America…It is your turn to do the right thing!
