Training in Strange Places, Wearing Strange Outfits
Well, it is Tour de France time, and Tour bans are likely in the next few days or weeks. Today the UCI announced that several top riders have failed unannounced doping tests. UCI anti-doping manager, Anne Gripper, told a French newspaper that,
[the UCI is] targeting seven riders considered high risk because of their suspicious behavior and because they are liable to do well at the Tour de France. Some have already undergone three or four unannounced tests.
It seems that the UCI received information that these top riders were training in obscure locations and reportedly training in “strange outfits.” Several of the tests have already come back positive, but UCI officials are tight lipped about who failed the tests because the “B” samples still need to confirm the positive finding. Ms. Gripper told the French newspaper that names could be announced prior to the start of the Tour de France.
I am trying to picture what these strange outfits would look like. Are they riding in bubbles? It would seem foolish for an entire ring of dopers to be out training together. I can’t wait to hear the names involved and find out what these strange outfits are.
