Bjarne Riis Will be Fired
Bjarne Riis, former winner/cheater in the Tour de France, will be fired from his position as Team CSC Manager. This is my prediction based on growing pressure from major sponsors.
Today it was announced that one of Team CSC’s major sponsors, MAN trucks, is pulling their sponsorship from the team. MAN has been pondering this move for some time because of the doping stigma that plagues the sport. They continued to sponsor Team CSC because the team has one of the toughest anti-doping programs of any team in cycling. The stigma of cycling and along with a team manager that is and admitted doper is too much for MAN, and they pulled the plug today. CSC already runs on a very limited budget compared to other teams on the Pro Tour. They cannot afford to wait for more sponsors to pull out before they make a move. My prediction is that Riis will be nowhere near the Tour de France this year……and I think it serves him right. His employment in cycling is comparable to a convict making money selling memorabilia from his crime. It is despicable.
